While laying flat across a sandy beach and staring into a brilliantly starry sky, I realized that the visceral awe I feel while staring into space comes from feeling so insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe. We humans are a tiny speck in the universal scale of time and space and thinking about that can be at once daunting and exhilarating. This series of photographs places humans in vast landscapes, showing how utterly small and out of control we may be in this world. Still, we hold tight to the hope that we can harness nature for our own enjoyment and utility. The bliss I find in outdoor adventure stems from feeling small in a huge world and experiencing the power and force of water, wind and other elements. I urge you to become part of the earth next time you venture outside, and steep in the euphoria of your own insignificance.
